We recruit staff with a wide range of backgrounds, skill levels, disciplines and working styles. We look for aptitude and insight, rather than time served in similar roles. So we welcome applications from individuals at all career stages and from any sector.  We will give you the specific knowledge and skills you need to be a high-performing national intelligence professional.

Current Opportunities

Given the breadth of our requirements, we conduct most of our recruitment via specific and periodic processes looking for particular skills and attributes. We encourage you to visit our Current Opportunities page regularly.

Talent register

Our talent register is open for candidates to register a general expression of interest for employment opportunities. We use the register to identify appropriately skilled and experienced individuals at short notice.

Applicants may be considered for likely temporary, casual, non-ongoing or ongoing vacancies into the future. Both current APS employees interested in transfers and secondment opportunities and those with no prior public sector experience are strongly encouraged to register their interest.

We are looking for highly motivated applicants to tell us about what skills, experience and qualifications they can offer. If a position comes up, we will review the resume and application information to see if someone has what we need.

All vacancies are based in Canberra and you will only be contacted if a vacancy arises that suits your attributes, skills, and experience.

Career transition

We welcome applications for all roles from established professionals looking to shift careers, including from the private sector.  We are not an organisation that recruits most staff as graduates. We are a much more fluid organisation that recruits and develops high-performing individuals with the aptitude and mindset we are looking for regardless of their career stage.

The Office of National Intelligence does not have a dedicated graduate program. But we participate in the Australian Public Service Commission graduate program(Opens in a new tab/window) and take graduates from several of its professional streams. We also welcome applications from recent graduates for suitable positions when they are advertised - we would suggest looking at positions advertised at the APS3 to APS6 levels.

We offer a small number of student placements and employment schemes. These will be listed here from time to time.
