Cyber and Critical Technology Intelligence Centre

The Cyber and Critical Technology Intelligence Centre drives innovation and delivers unique insights into the cyber and critical technology landscape. 

The Centre is a multi-agency initiative based within the Office of National Intelligence that works collaboratively with partners within and beyond the Australian Government.

On 29 March 2022, the then Prime Minister, the Hon Scott Morrison MP, announced the establishment of the Centre: “The multi-agency Centre will ensure Australia, working with our allies, can better anticipate and capitalise on emerging technologies. Working with non‑government R&D partners as well, we will be able to better fund, shape and deploy cutting-edge science, research and technology to deliver better capabilities into the future”.

Insights and Assessments

The Centre derives novel cyber and technology insights to inform complex government decision-making. A key aspect of the Centre’s work is to harness the cyber and technology expertise available to the national intelligence community to produce all-source intelligence assessments.

With challenging and changing geopolitical realities - where technological advantage for our intelligence agencies is more important than ever - Australia is, as always, stepping up to do more.

We aim to be a sought-after and respected voice on cyber and technology issues and understand that to achieve this, we need to build and maintain appropriate expertise through people and partnerships.

We help senior decision-makers and policy agencies to understand the global developments in technology and the range of social, security and economic implications that results in policy design and implementation.

To provide those insights to senior decision-makers, we need to stay at the leading edge of cyberspace and technology. We use insights we gain from investments in innovation and research to develop our insights and assessments.

Innovation and Research

The Centre works with partners to fund, shape and deploy cutting-edge science, technology and research into the future for the national intelligence community. We are helping to fund, shape and deploy advanced science, research and technology to build the nation’s resilience to evolving threats.

The Centre enhances the funding opportunities, including scholarships and grants, available to researchers and academia to enable the future capabilities of Australia’s national security community. It builds on previous funding programs, such as the joint Office of National Intelligence and Defence National Intelligence and Security Discovery Research Grants program(Opens in a new tab/window).
